Kabale University Senior Lecturer Sacked For Sexually Harassing Female Students

The Head of Department of Economics and Statistics at Kabale University has been sacked after being found guilty of sexual harassment.

 

Dr. Nafiu Lukman Abiodun who allegedly always demanded sex from female students in exchange for marks and those that refused got retakes got the sack in a letter dated 9th November 2022.

 

According to the letter signed off by Baryantuma Johnson Munono, the University Secretary, Dr. Nafiu was found guilty of sexual harassment by the Appointments Board of Kabale University under Minute 598/60/AB/2022.

 

The Senior Lecturer of Statistics was also found guilty of failure to follow examination guidelines and professional negligence. Dr. Nafiu had been out of office on interdiction.

 

“The Board further resolved not to renew your contract as Senior Lecturer Statistics when it expires on 11th November, 2022 when it expires,” the termination letter reads in part.

 

Last month, Prof. Joy Constance Kwesiga, the Vice Chancellor of Kabale University expressed her concern over increased acts of sexual harassment among students in the institutions of higher learning.

 

Prof. Joy Kwesiga said that acts of sexual harassments are on a rise not only at Kabale University but in all institutions of higher learning across the country. She said that many efforts are needed to eliminate such acts among institutions of higher learning, thus reminding students that the University has Anti-Sexual harassment policy.

 

“I’m warning teaching staff to desist from compromising students demanding money and sex from students. I ask students to always refute and report such acts to relevant offices when they get harassed as students you have to know your rights, stand on them and demand them in a proper way,” said Prof Kwesiga.
