BUDUDA
Police in Bududa district has arrested a 22 year old woman on allegations of butchering two minors to death.
The suspect is identified as Lydia Wemesa, a resident of Bukibumbi village, Bukibumbi parish, Bukalasi Sub County in Bududa district.
According to Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi the LCV chairperson of Bududa district, the incident happened this morning, 3rd January 2023 when all neighbors had gone to work in their gardens.
He revealed to this reporter that one minor was 5 years old and her biological child whereas the other was 6 years old and her co-wife’s son.
He says that locals came back and discovered the two lying in pool of blood and raised an alarm which attracted locals who turned up with pangas, sticks, and hoes with intention of lynching her but she ran away and disappeared into the neighboring Mt. Elgon National Park.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying the suspect has been arrested and is currently detained at Bududa Police Central Station.
He says the suspect will first be subjected to a mental test to prove whether she was mentally disturbed or normal before taking her to court.
