The government of Uganda has finally published and gazzetted Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot as the third Emorimor Papa Iteso, the cultural head of the Iteso cultural Union.
Emorimor’s name appeared on the national gazette on 16th December, 2022 and came known to the public yesterday, 3rd January, 2023.
Amongi Betty Ongom, the minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development in a notice dated 9th December 2022 stated that Article 246(1) of the constitution of Uganda and Institution of traditional and cultural leaders Act 2011, section 6, confers upon her the powers to cause the declaration to be published and gazetted.
HH Emolot was installed as Emorimor after sailing through unopposed in October last year at the Mayors Gardens Soroti to replace the second Emorimor August Osuban Lemukol who passed on in February the same year.
Emolot who takes over the leadership of one of the largest Cultural institutions in East Africa comes with a vast wealth of cultural leadership traits having served the Ateker community in different capacities including the prime ministerial position and the second highest position of the chairman of the council of clans which he held till his elevation to the position of the King.
In his inaugural speech at the mayor’s garden in Soroti City in October, Emolot said top on his Agenda for the institution is building the palace in soroti city, causing maximum unity amongst the Ateker and also promised to launch a crusade to eradicate poverty from amongst his subjects.
Upon the receipt of the news from the ministry gender on the gazzetting of the Emorimor, the Tororo South county Member of Parliament Fredrick Angura asked the people of Tororo district and Teso as a whole to offer the new Emorimor support so that he can drive Ateker towards social- economic transformation without interference.
Angura pledged to voluntarily spearhead the team that will construct for the Emorimor a palace so that the Ateker people can have a decent home.
