A 40 year old man has been arrested after he strangled his wife’s 9 months old son and dumped the kid’s body in River Lwakhakha.
The suspect has been identified as Robert Wolukawu, a resident of Bumbotsa village, Buwasibe parish, Nabitsikhi Sub County in Namisindwa district.
According to his own pleadings, Wolukawu carried out the despicable act because his wife produced the child with his neighbor identified as Peter Kanyanya while he was away in Kenya for two years.
This was confirmed by Frederick Bango, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner who says Wolukawu murdered his illegitimate son by strangling accusing his wife known as Annet Nafula for involving in extra martial sex with Peter Kanyanya.
The RDC says that Walukawu carried the body of the baby after the murder and threw it in River Lwakhakha where water carried the body to Bushuma village, Buwambiqwa parish Namboko Sub County in Namisindwa district where the body was discovered by police during a search.
The police carried out the search with the help of neighbours after Nafula reported the case to police.
Bango says the suspect has pleaded guilty to committing the crime claiming that he did it out of anger and jealousy.
“Police has already arrested him and he is currently being detained at Bubutu police post but the body has been taken to Mbale main hospital for postmortem,” Bango said.
Safu Sitangi, an eye witness also a neighbor to the suspect says that before the incident, Wolukawu had quarreled with his wife the previous night telling her to take the baby to his biological father.
He adds that during the quarrel, Wolukawu vowed to kill the baby if the wife failed to take him to the biological father.
Moses Kisibo, the LCI chairperson of Bombotsa village condemned the incident urging women to be trustworthy to their husbands such that they can avoid such related cases in future.
