BUSIA
At least 56 out of the 62 parishes in Busia district have received 34 million shillings under the Parish Development Model program.
Nasser Mukiibi, the Chief Administrative Officer Busia district revealed this information on 13/03/2023 during an evaluation meeting with the stakeholders at the district headquarters in Busia Municipality.
The Parish Development Model or simply PDM is a government program that was launched by President Yoweri K. Museveni, to deepen the decentralization process; improve household incomes; enable inclusive, sustainable, balanced and equitable socio-economic transformation; and increase accountability at local levels.
According to the CAO, under the PDM program, Busia is categorized into two administrative units which are Busia Municipality and Busia district which covers the rest of the district.
Mukiibi said that in the last financial year 2022, each Sacco in Busia district received Shs9 million, adding that the ministry of finance has released another amount of 25 million shillings to total an amount of 34 million shillings.
He said that there are 6 parish Sacco’s that received the first amount of 9 million shillings during the first batch but they have missed on the second batch of the money due to irregularities in their registration process. He, however, assured the stakeholders that his office together with other relevant leaders will work together to help those Sacco’s that have missed receiving money in this second phase.
In Busia municipality, Mukiibi said that there are 8 parishes/wards that have also received a total 25 million shillings each topping on the shs7.1 million shillings they had received in the first batch creating a total of 32 million shillings received.
