The Deputy Inspector General of Government has warned local leaders from Bugisu and Sebei regions to declare their assets before the end of March, 2023.
Patricia Achan sounded the warning on Tuesday, 14th March, 2023 while speaking to hundreds of local leaders from different districts of Bugisu and Sebei region at Lukhobo hall Mbale district head offices.
The IGG engaged local leaders and trained them on how to declare their assets online which is renewed every five years such that they cannot be culprits.
She said that all local leaders have been given the whole of this month to declare their assets warning that any leader who will defy doing so will face penalties like demotion, being arrested or not receiving salary.
Achan urged all local leaders to welcome the exercise saying that this helps the government to know what they have rather than involving in corruption or stealing public funds to enrich themselves.
Richard Wanda, the Member of Parliament for Bungokho Central in Mbale district who was chief guest said this will reduce the embezzlement of government funds in local governments.
Jackson Wakwaika, the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district asked the IGG after the expiry of declaration time to follow up those leaders who will have refused such that they can be penalised than keeping quite like how it has been doing in previous years.
