MBALE CITY

So far ten patients have died at Mbale regional referral hospital due to blood shortage that has hit the facility for one week now.

Mbale referral hospital serves over twenty districts in eastern region.

The Mbale referral hospital director, Stephen Obbo confirmed the death of the mothers and children who mainly needed blood transfusion on Wednesday, 23rd, March, 2023.

He adds that this must be taken as serious urging government and non government organisations to come to the Hospital’s rescue.

According to Didas Atwebembere,  the principal Lab Technologist working at Mbale referral hospital, as a hospital they need about 100 units of blood a day, but nowdays they receive less than 13 units which is not enough.

David Mafabi, a parent of child who lost life due to lack of blood urged Ugandans to voluntarily donate blood such that lives of people can be saved.

Getting a comment from Ahamed Bumbat heading Mbale blood bank was futile by press time after claiming that he was not at office.
