MANAFWA

Police has today, 11th April, 2023 heavily deployed at Manafwa town council in Manafwa district after getting intelligence that locals want to hold a peacefull demonstration against the detention of their Woman Member of Parliament also Minister of Karamoja Affairs, Mary Goret Kitutu.

Last week Kitutu was detained at Luzira over allegations of diverting Iron sheets meant for the people of Karamoja.

Locals yesterday had planned to hold a peaceful demonstration by marching to the office of the RDC to take for him a petition to present to President Museveni asking him to release their Member of Parliament.

According to some locals who preferred anonymity, they are unhappy with the detention of their MP yet the scandal involves many top government officials who were not arrested.

According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, they deployed police at Manafwa town council to face those people who were going to demonstrate after getting intelligence information.

He adds that anybody who complains about the detention of Kitutu can seek legal redress rather than demonstrating.

By press time, police were still heavily deployed at Manafwa town council.
