The Anti-Corruption Court has convicted & sentenced Mause Tom, the former Chairperson Area Land Committee & three directors of the Lions Club of Tororo Host Ltd; Googo Nelson, Wamala Lawrence & Dambio John.
The four were convicted today, 3rd May, 2023.
The accused together with Osudo Jackson, the Principal Ast. Secretary/Secretary Dist. Land Board were charged with attempting to fraudulently register land measuring approximately 4 acres hosting the Tororo Children’s Park.
The directors acting with Mr Mause Tom and Mr Osudo Jackson attempted to fraudulently register the land to their private company, Lions Club of Tororo Host Ltd created to usurp the rights of the legitimate registered trustees of Lions Club of Tororo.
This faraudulent process was intercepted at the Ministry of Lands Zonal offices, Mbale after it was found that there was no input from the Physical Planner, Tororo district.
This action was then reported to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit that swung into action in 2022 and liaised with CID that effected the arrests and had them charged in court.
BACKGROUND
In May, 2022, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit together with the Uganda Police arrested seven persons in connection with this fraudulent act.
The arrested officials then were; Directors of Tororo Lion’s Club Host Ltd, District Senior Lands Management Officer, acting Physical Planner, former chairperson Area Land Committee, Municipal Engineer and the Town Clerk.
