Traffic police in Namutumba town council in Namutumba district are investigating circumstances under which a box body truck rammed into roadside traders along Iganga-Mbale road killing one person instantly while others were severely injured.
The accident happened at 9:10PM, on 23/5/2023.
The deceased according to eyewitnesses is a boda boda rider identified as Ronald Nakku who works at Agalya Awamu Bodaboda stage association and a resident of Kalitumba village, Kiwanyi Sub County in Namutumba district.
He was among the business people operating along the highway when suddenly a trailer registration number UBH 930W overloaded with maize from the Jinja side on its way to Mbale lost control and rammed into them.
The police led by the District Commander, ASP Herbert Nuwagaba were quick to reach the accident scene and together with the help of area residents helped to take the injured people to Namutumba Health Centre IV while the deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary.
ASP Nuwagaba, said the police will continue with the investigation to determine the real cause of the accident, however, eye witnesses like Simon Isabirye Magemeso who is also the Treasurer of Namutumba town council business community blamed his own traders for putting their stalls near the busy road.
Charles Nabbanja, the chairperson of Namutumba Town Council business community urged his people to remove their stalls near the roadside if they are to avoid such incidents.
