Elders who started the Masaba cultural institution under their umbrella Inzu yamsaba promoters have resolved to fire the two rivalling cultural leaders, Mike Mudoma and John Amuramu Wagabyalile.
The resolution was made on Sunday, 28th May, 2023 at Court View Hotel located in Mbale City during a consultative meeting chaired by Francis Wodero, the General Secretary of Masaba Cultural Institution.
The meeting was aiming to get lasting solutions about the long term confusion on who is the truly elected Umukuka.
Since the death of Bob Mushikori, the second Masaba cultural leader [Umukuka] in 2020, Masaba cultural institution has no Umukuka after government under ministry of gender stating that until Mike Mudoma and John Amuramu Wagabyalile come together, Government will not gazette any of them after both claiming that they were truly elected III Umukuka.
During the meeting, Wamimbi Weyesa, the first cultural leader of Masaba cultural institution said that this confusion has cost Bamasaba in terms of benefiting from government programs.
He adds that the General Secretary must conduct new elections of clan delegates since the current ones are expired before organising fresh election of the new Umukuka.
Charles Mungoma, the chairperson of Inzu yamsaba promoters says that after electing clan delegates, they will ask the search committee to go to Mwambu and identify candidates who will be assessed and one of them will be elected.
He added that even the current two rivals will be offered chance to contest in case they have qualities such that they can end conflicts and get one Umukuka.
Francis Wodero pledged to implement the resolutions which were made by the elders.
