179 clearing agents at Lwakhakha Border in Namisindwa District have asked for immediate ban of Malaba born agents over what they say is increased criminality and discrimination in their mode of operations.
Walukano Abubaker, a clearing agent in Lwakhakha TC says for the last three months, they have struggled to work with their counterparts from Malaba border. He says the team from Malaba have wrongly accused them of theft, attempts to poison them among others which he says is hard to take in.
Thomas Watsala, another clearing agent in Namisindwa says there is need to regulate the operations of the Malaba team. He explains that the team has deliberately refused to register with their association. He also accuses leaders of being compromised to favor Malaba team.
Kisongotsi Mureefu, the LCIII chairperson of Lwakhakha TC refuted the claims by the clearing agents. He explains that job opportunities can’t be ringfenced for a specific region. He says the team from Lwakhakha is of an economic value to the business of Lwakhakha through rent, buying food etc.
Mureefu says the Lwakhakha team has continued to chase their colleagues off the road, an impression he says is sectarian.
Bwayo Emma the Namisindwa District Male Youth Councillor says such disorganization gives a bad publicity to Lwakhakha explaining that it has an effect in the quest for municipal status.
Bwayo says Lwakhakha town council being the oldest town in Namisindwa District is a centre of business for everyone asking people in it to be accommodative and hardworking.
