President Museveni has revealed that Tororo municipality, a center of contention amongst the people of Tororo County and West Budama, entirely belongs to Tororo County as per the London map.

In 2017, government of Uganda sent a delegation led by the then lands minister, Betty Amongi accompanied by a team from Tieng Adhola cultural institution and Iteso cultural union to London following a request by the then West Budama South Member of Parliament to extract the colonial boundaries regarding the exact location of Tororo municipality.
The President made the revelation while responding to the Tororo County Member Of Parliament Fredrick Angura who had asked the president to elaborate on the findings from London because the matter is causing tension in the district. This was during the 10 days retreat of NRM parliamentary caucus in Kyankwazi that ended yesterday 4th June 2023.
In response, President Museveni said the London map shows that Tororo municipality is entirely a child birthed from Tororo County and no single portion of West Budama land contributed to its formation.
The President noted that the people of West Budama had earlier claimed that Tororo municipality was made up of parishes and sub counties from both West Budama and Tororo County which he said is false.
He asked the entire country to respect colonial boundaries arguing this is the NRM’s doctrine of co-existence.
President Museveni further noted that the Corona outbreak refrained him from calling for the meeting however after knowing the exact content of the map, he will soon convene a meeting with the two sides to have this matter resolved permanently.
The President, who admitted he was equally tired of this matter, asked the people of Tororo to remain calm as he organizes for a meeting.
This comes at a time when different stakeholders have been asking for the division of the district since the district is big and is causing a hindrance to service delivery.
It is however not clear how soon the President will call for this meeting to resolve the issues of Tororo district.
