A ring leader of a notorious gang of thugs which has been terrorizing locals in Sironko has been shot dead by police while five of his accomplices are on the run.
Jovex Walimbwa aged 22 years of age and a resident of Budangala village, Budagala parish Bumasifwa Sub County in Sironko district was shot on Saturday night, 3rd June 2023 while trying to break into a shop of Wasukila, one of the businessmen in the area.
After locals noticed this, they made an alarm which attracted nearby police officers from Masaba police station who swung in action and started chasing them until they shot Walimbwa.
The Sironko Resident District Commissioner, Denis Ephraim Balwaniregha confirmed the incident saying that Walimbwa has been a ring leader of a notorious gang of thugs which has been terrorizing locals in the area.
He also says that last week, the same gang went to neighboring Masaba Sub County and raided a shop of one of the businessmen whose name he didn’t mention and went away with about ten million shillings.
The RDC also thanked the great work locals did with police saying working together as a team is the only way to bring sanity in the area.
He said the body of the deceased has been taken to Mbale Regional referral hospital for post-mortem.
Titus Wombilo, the area district councilor has urged youths in the area to desist from involving in such crimes but work hard to earn a living.
