Shock has engulfed residents of Mutufu town council in Sironko district today 14th June 2023 after a 30 year old woman poisoned her three children before taking her own life.
According to area residents, the deceased, Jessica Cherop and resident of Masaba cell, Mutufu town council in Sironko district mixed rat poison in food which she ate together with her three children.
The deceased is said to have been distressed by her husband called Sam Gidudu marrying a second wife.
According to Peter Wadega one of the area residents, Cherop diluted rat poison and after mixed it in food she ate with her three children last night with intention of killing them.
He adds that after eating food, all started becoming unconscious until they were rushed to Mbale regional referral hospital where she died followed by one of the children.
Merisa Mudenga, the area female district councilor condemned the act saying she would have used legal means by reporting the matter to their parents or local leaders than poisoning herself with innocent children.
Denis Ephraim Balinwarigha, the Sironko Resident District Commissioner has confirmed the incident saying that the other two children are currently in critical condition receiving treatment at Mbale regional referral hospital.
