Five police officers have been remanded to prison on charges of aggravated robbery in an incident related to the theft of Shs163 million belonging to one of the candidates in the Bukedea LCV By-election.
According to a statement released by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the five were arraigned before the Bukedea Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 5th July,2023 and remanded till 27th July,2023.
The five have been identified as D/ASP Ehguloiti Alex, PC Onesmus Akankwansa, D/C Simon Peter Oriokot, PC Difas Kamakoin and PC Born Naibei.
It is alleged that on the night of 4th April, 2023, the accused armed with SMG guns broke into the house of Igune Alfred, Candidate Omagor’s Chief campaign Agent.
Their intention was to steal Omagor’s electoral documents and other properties in order to stop him from being nominated in the recently concluded LCV Bukedea By-election.
Recently, President Museveni directed the head of State House Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate allegations of gross abuse of rights of Candidate Omagor.
