There was shock in Budaka district on Sunday, 23rd July, 2023 when a Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldier was murdered by a civilian during a fight over unknown reasons.
The deceased is known as Martin Mbayo attached to Bugema army barracks, resident of Bukoli village, Nanzara parish, Kameruka Sub County in Budaka district.
It was reported that last week, the deceased went for drinking in the bar at Kameruka trading centre located at Kameruka sub-county in Budaka district and they had misunderstandings with Robert Tabiruka his colleague at the bar.
They fought and he (the soldier) sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mbale Regional referral hospital. However his situation worsened and was referred to Mulago but died on the way on Sunday 23rd July, 2023.
Immaculate Emily Alaso the North Bukedi police spokesperson confirmed the incident saying that the body is currently at Bugema army barracks.
She also says that they are hunting for Tabiruka such that he can be arrested and charged with murder.
