Mbale city has revealed plans of reconstructing the Kumi road market which was burnt last month.

Last month a fire that started from a charcoal stove gutted the Kumi Road market destroying properties worth Shs100 million of over 500 vendors.

According to James Kutosi, the spokesperson of Mbale city, before the burning of the market, the city already had plans of constructing modern stalls and lockups.

He adds that they are planning to fulfill those plans soon since the market got burnt.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Balamye the chairperson of  Kumi Road market while speaking to hundreds of fire affected vendors on Wednesday while receiving one million shillings support from Lydia Wanyoto the NRM women’s league chairperson said that since they were affected by the fire last month, no single government officer from Mbale city has visited them to say sorry or give any support.

He said that currently, vendors are struggling by themselves to replace burnt stalls and lockups which is shameful on the side of Mbale city since it should have been their work.

However, Lydia Wanyoto NRM woman’s league chairperson also doubling as NRM Mbale City Woman MP contestant gave them one million shillings and called for calm saying government is planning to construct permanent stalls lockups in the market.
