The police of Soroti Central Police station are actively investigating an incident where a person with special needs of physical disability was allegedly sodomized by a 20 year old adult who is in custody.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect only identified as Opolot Michael, a 20 year resident of town talks within Soroti city was on Wednesday 16/08/2023 at around 00:30AM found having canal knowledge of a 49 year old male adult with physical informatics and of unsound mind at Soroti City sports ground where a concert was organized.
The two were promptly arrested and taken to Soroti Central Police Station where a case of unnatural offence vide CRB 187/2023 of Soroti CPS was opened.
According to the PRO East Kyoga, SP Ageca Oscar Gregg in a press statement,” The police have recorded a statement from the accused person and talked to the victim who has been examined by medical doctors as a tool to confirm the incident and act as evidence for prosecution in courts of Judicature.”
” We would like to inform the public that sex between members of the same sex is an offense against the laws of Uganda to wit the Anti Homosexuality Act and further inform them that acts against public decency such sex in public places, and nakedness carried out personally or in concert with others carry penal sanction”, he added.
The incident took place during Muhoozi’s Baraza in Soroti sports ground.
The incident is said to have happened in the wee hours when the disabled man was called by the suspect. It’s reported that a police officer came across them in the act.
Emmanuel Akonu, the uncle of the victim, told this website that he got a call from his sister informing him that his nephew was in police and doing bad.
The sister informed him that she got a call from the police but she was busy and couldn’t make it there. Upon reaching the police, Akonu says he found his nephew inside the CID office in Soroti central police Station.
He said the victim had his behind shuttered with clothes smeared with human dung indicating that there was penetration through his anal. The suspect is reportedly being detained at Soroti central police station.
“We have been told to bring him home and they will call us back in case of anything. You know his disability is complicated. We asked him why and how human dung got smeared on his clothes and he said it was during the act. Police wanted to visit the scene but unfortunately the police officer who found them in the act was not at office” Akonu said.
According to Akonu, police also informed them that the suspect seems to be a drug addict who narrates that he saw the victim as a woman.
