Two UPDF soldiers have been confirmed dead after being ambushed and killed by cattle Karamojong cattle thieves at Molunyangai hill (Pian Upe Game Reserve) in Nakapiripirit District.
Only one soldier has been identified as Lt John Ojur Ssentongo, while the identity of the second has not yet been confirmed.
According to Maj. Isaac Owere, PIO 3 Division, the soldiers were killed by Pokots while tracking stolen 300-400 heads of cattle from areas of Kobion in Loleng sub county, Nakapiripirit District on Tuesday night.
He urged West Pokot County leaders to identify the criminals such that they can be arrested and brought to book for justice to prevail and recover the 400 stolen cows.
Owere also says that UPDF leadership in the region by order and obligation remains committed to conduct operations against all armed criminal elements from neighboring countries, drive them away and possibly degrade their capabilities.
