National Drug Authority Closes 166 Illegal Drug Shops in Eastern Uganda Operation

The National Drug Authority (NDA) has closed 166 illegal drug shops in an operation carried out in the districts of Bugiri, Iganga, Jinja, Jinja City, Mayuge, and Namayingo.

 

This was revealed in a press statement issued today 8th September, 2023 by the Authority’s Secretary who said the operation ended today.

“We have today concluded a target compliance enforcement operation in South Eastern Region covering 6 districts of Bugiri, Iganga, Jinja, Jinja City, Mayuge, Namayingo,” the statement reads in part.

 

During the same operation, NDA says it impounded 241 boxes of assorted medicines worth over UGX 80M.

 

NDA further warns all operators still operating without licences or supervised by unqualified personnel to stop operations until licensing requirements are fulfilled.

 

Those whose drugs were impounded have been advised to report to the Jinja Regional office to be guided on how to comply and possibly recover their drugs.
