BUDUDA
People living in disaster prone areas in Bududa district are set to receive additional funding from government.
This was revealed over the weekend during a sensitization and financial literacy campaign in Bududa district for the 846 Landslides/flash floods prone selected households.
The sensitization and financial literacy campaign is being undertaken by Bududa district local government in conjunction with the Office of the Prime Minister and Post Bank Uganda.
The sensitization was undertaken in disaster prone sub counties of Bukalasi, Bushiyi, Busilibo, Bundesi, Mabono, Bufuma, Bulucheke, Bumwalukani, Bunabutiti, Nabweya, and Bushika.
According to Milton Kamoti, the LCV chairperson of Bududa district, the sensitization work started over the weekend and each of the selected households that received 7million shillings under the Givedirect, a Non Govt US based Humanitarian organization is to receive additional 10million conditional Uganda shillings and one acre of land at Bunambutye resettlement center in Bulambuli district from the office of the Prime Minister.
He adds that upon receiving the additional money and land from government, the household will be compelled to relocate to a safer place either to Bunambutye or any other place of their choice.
The household shall surrender the piece of land in landslide/flash floods prone areas to the government for tree planting to restore and conserve the environment.
It should be noted clearly that the government is not buying land from the citizens but facilitating the persons in dangerous areas to relocate to safer areas to save lives in anticipation of heavy rainfall in the months of September, October, November and December (SONDE) as warned by the Uganda Meteorological Authority.
It’s expected that by the end of this week, all beneficiaries who will have successfully fulfilled the requirements by OPM and Post bank Uganda such as filling the forms with correct information with their phone contacts, NIN and account opening shall receive 10million and an acre of land at Bunambutye for relocation in safer places to save lives.
