Police in Namisindwa district are hunting for an LCI chairperson over suspicion of stealing cows from his neighbour.
The suspect, Ronald Wenani aged 47 years, the LCI chairperson of Bumufuni cell, Bumalanga Ward, Bubutu Town Council in Namisindwa district.
According to Sam Mungawu, the Bubutu Town Council Youth Chairperson, also one of his neighbors, on Friday last week, unknown people stole two cows of Milton Wanzala, their fellow resident also doubling as a bursar of Bumbo secondary school.
Mungawu reported the matter to police and on Sunday, 17th September 2023, police brought a sniffer dog which went direct to Wenani’s home but they did not get him at home.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying they are looking for this local leader saying once arrested, he will be taken to court and answer charges of theft.
Julie Namara, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Namisindwa last week during the LCV chairperson’s state of district address at the district said that due to increased cases of cross border cattle theft, security in the district and of Kenya side agreed to stage road blocks at all entries of Kenya and in Uganda as a way of curbing down cattle theft in the district.
