The State House Health Monitoring Unit has said it has unearthed 18 ghost health facilities with 75 ‘health workers’ in Manafwa district.
This startling revelation was made by Dr. Julian Nabatanzi, Deputy head of the State House Health Monitoring Unit and the one who led the team that visited the district following the death of an expectant mother and her unborn baby at Bugobero Health Center recently.
Dr. Nabatanzi who addressed the Media on Thursday, 21st September, 2023 at Manafwa district headquarters said the Unit is going to carry out further investigations to pin the perpetrators of the creation of these ghost units.
Her address came after the completion of the state house health monitoring unit’s one month health monitoring mission in Manafwa district.
While speaking to our reporter in Manafwa, Dr. Julian said that as a unit, they have discovered 18 ghost health facilities with 75 ghost health facilities workers fully paid by public service, and also found out that majority of the health staff at Bugobero health center 4 are indisciplined something leading to an increase in child and maternal death.
She noted that from February to July 2023, so far 8 children have died and 6 of them have died due to negligence by staff.
Nabatanzi also expressed concern over poor hygiene of the health staff at Bugobero health center 4 and absenteeism of doctors whereby they work for only 5 days in a month.
Julian noted that there’s theft and sale of government drugs by health staff at Bugobero health center IV and forgery of receipts of about Shs30million.
Some of the residents who use Bugobero health center 4 said that the medics are abusive and ask for money before offering service to them.
