Attempts by Namisindwa district authorities to stop the spread of the raging cattle lumpy skin disease has hit a snag with the district failing to get enough vaccines against the disease.
This was revealed by David Mityelo, the Namisindwa district acting production officer while speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.
Mityelo says after the disease broke out in the district two weeks ago, they wrote to the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry informing them and seeking support in terms of vaccines.
He says that the Ministry has however not responded to their request leaving the district with no vaccines against the disease.
Consequently, Mityelo says they were forced to write to development partners to support them who responded by bringing vaccines at low cost of Shs2,000 per dose.
He added that most farmers can’t afford the Shs2,000 to vaccinate their animals and that even the few who can afford, cant access the vaccines because they are over now due to big number of animals they have in the entire district.
Sam Kundu, the LC3 chairperson of Buwatuwa Sub County, the most hit says that the disease is multiplying day and night and has urged the government to respond.
