MBALE: Man Collapses Dead after Galloping 3 Litres of Local Waragi

A man identified as Wabunywa Rogers, 28, a resident of lwaka Village, Bulusambu parish, Busoba Sub County, in Mbale District has died in a waragi drinking competition.
The deceased is said to have boasted before revelers at new life Bar at the village on Tuesday that he could consume three liters of locally made waragi within five minutes to the disbelief of everyone.
His colleagues reportedly made a quick fundraising yesterday, Wednesday, 27th September 2023 and the three liters of waragi were bought for him to prove that he could drink in the agreed time.
Wabunywa reportedly drunk the waragi in less than five minutes. He however, fell down and passed out before he was rushed to the nearby Clinic where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The chairman LC 1 lwaka village, George Wakisambula who confirmed the incident revealed that three of the people who raised the money to buy the waragi have so far been arrested. They include the owner of the bar, a one Masaba , Mr. George Wakuma and Fred Lutoti all residents of lwaka Village.
Mr Wakisambula said uncontrolled consumption of crude waragi is a big problem in the district, especially in Busoba Sub-county.
Wabunywa’s body has been taken to Mbale Regional Hospital for postmortem examination.
