A 65 year old man in Namisindwa district narrowly survived a lynching after he was caught red-handed defiling a 12 year old Primary Three pupil.
The suspect is known as Stephen Wamaliya, a resident of Muyembe village, Butingu parish, Bungati Sub County in Namisindwa district.
According to Nicholas Nasala, one of the area residents, Wamaliya was caught on Sunday night, 1st October 2023 defiling a primary three pupil of Bungati primary school aged 12 years in his house.
Locals armed with pangas, axes, sticks, and bricks wanted to lynch Wamaliya but was saved by police and LCI chairperson.
Sam Namukongo, the LCI chairperson of Muyembe village condemned Wamaliya saying the law should take its course.
SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying that Wamaliya is currently being detained at Namisindwa police station waiting to answer charges of aggravated defilement.
