Residents in Mugungu “B” Cell, Mugungu Ward, Busia Municipality were yesterday 11/10/2023 engulfed by shock after a teenage girl identified as Annet Ageke drowned in an open septic tank dying instantly.
The incident according to Mugungu LC2 Chairperson, Mr. Salongo Bernard Makhokha happened after the deceased who has been working as a casual laborer for a yet to be identified resident fell in an open septic tank while on her way to the toilet located in the same enclosure.
Mr. Bernard says that following the incident, residents informed the police quickly while they as well tried to save the deceased from the tank but she had already breathed her last.
Information obtained by our reporter indicates that the deceased completed her S.4 recently but her parents could not afford to support her for further studies which forced her to find a job as a casual laborer in the same area.
The deceased according to the area leaders is aged 19.
Police are yet to issue a statement about the matter but the body of the deceased was taken to Busia Health Centre IV for postmortem as investigation continues.
