A Grade 2 Magistrate has been arraigned in court for allegedly stealing over Shs400M meant to compensate his uncles and aunties.
According to SCP Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, the suspect is Kerican Peter Prosper.
Enanga says Kerican allegedly converted cash amounting to Shs402 million that was meant for compensating his Uncles and Aunties, for their land, to his own personal use.
Enanga says that during the month of January 2022, at Angal Lower Parish, Nyaravur Sub- County, in Nebbi district, the beneficiaries authorised him to receive their cash compensation, through his bank Account at Housing Finance, thinking he was trustworthy person.
The money was paid to the beneficiaries by the Ministry of Defence as compensation for land acquired by the UPDF in 2001.
Enanga says police is still investigating to find out what Kerican did with the money saying Kerican should be punished for betraying the trust his uncles entrusted upon.
“It is painful that those who hold the sacred trust with the community, instead yielded to the temptation of self-interest and wrongly assumed control over property, that he was not entitled to,” Enanga says.
