There was utter shock and anxiety at Bukhofu Sub County in Manafwa district after a patient that had been admitted for treatment in a drug shop died over allegations of neglect.
The incident happened at Bukanya village, Bukhofu Sub County in Manafwa district on Tuesday 17th October, 2023.
The deceased is known as David Buke, 37 years and a resident of Bukanya village while the owner of the drug shop is known as Isaac Amila.
It was reported that Buke developed stomach complications and was brought for treatment at the drug shop where he was admitted the previous day.
The sickness worsened leading to the death of Buke with residents suspecting it could have been a result of neglect. Noticing that his patient had died, Amila locked the body inside the drug shop and took off.
It was locals who discovered and alerted police who came and broke the door then took the body to Mbale city mortuary for postmortem.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon region police spokesperson confirmed the incident but promised to give a comment later after compiling all the information.
