Parents of Bunambobi government aided primary school located at Luwa town council in Namisindwa district have asked the district authorities to close the school over lack of pit latrine.

Shadrick Nambobi Wati, the school management chairperson says that the school has only two pit latrines which were constructed in 1999 but are all full now.

He adds that besides being full, the two pit latrines cannot serve 744 pupils that the school has had for the last over two years.

While speaking to this reporter on Monday, 23rd October 2023, Wati says that the all the pit latrines are full and children ease themselves from outside which has put lives of children, teachers and neighbors in danger.

Rogers Mupuya and Samuel Wandukwa, both parents say that they have raised these concerns to district authorities but they have never got any positive response.

He says that the district must resort to closing the school such that they can protect their children from getting cholera and other related diseases.

However, Alex Molokoi, Secretary for Education at Namisindwa district local government says that the World Bank has already allocated Shs27 million towards the construction of two stanza latrines at that school under ‘You run project.’

He added that the district never constructed latrines at any school in the district during the last financial year due to lack of money.

He urged parents to be calm saying soon they expect new latrines to be erected at the school adding that district cannot close the school.
