Police in Tororo district have arrested 29 year old lady over allegations of throwing her newly born baby in a pit latrine.
The suspect identified as Aisha Ndinya, a resident of Kararachi Trading Centre in Tororo- District was arrested on Tuesday, 24th October 2023.
Salim Safi, a councilor of Agururu ‘A’ Ward, North Division, Tororo Municipality in Tororo district says that she was told by locals that someone had thrown a baby in a pit latrine after hearing the baby crying.
She adds that together with locals they responded and discovered the baby crying inside the pit latrine then alerted police.
Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South police spokesperson confirmed the incident saying that they responded and removed the baby from the latrine while it was still alive and took it to Tororo hospital for treatment.
He adds that they have arrested Ndinya who pleaded guilty of committing the offence saying she was raped at night by unknown person and she was fearing responsibilities.
Ndinya is currently being detained at Tororo central police station waiting to appear in court to answer charges of attempted murder.
