IGANGA
A businessman in Iganga Municipality is walking with his head high after beating Roofings Uganda Ltd in Court after they supplied him with under-gauge iron sheets.
The case started way back in 2015 when Basangwa Isaac Bidi dragged Roofings Co. to the magistrates Court in Iganga accusing it of supplying him with iron sheets that were different from what he had ordered for.
The company had supplied him with 40 pieces of iron sheets of 28 gauges yet he had placed an order of 26 gauge.
On being tipped by his mansion contractors, Basangwa through his Lawyers, Balidawa Ngobi & Co. Advocates was prompted to open a civil suit No. 33/2015 against Roofing Co. when they failed to settle the matter amicably.
The case which has been ongoing since 2015 and switched from magistrate to another finally came to an end with Basangwa walking away with a huge smile.
In his ruling on Monday, the Iganga Chief Magistrate, Epegu Denis Kiboko found Roofings Co. guilty of the offense and directed it to pay Basangwa Shs47m in damages and costs and ordered Basangwa to retain the iron sheets in question as well.
During the ruling, Roofing Co. wasn’t available in court but the Chief Magistrate said it’s within their mandate to appeal his ruling in the High Court.
