A 24 year old youth has died while competing to complete 12 bottles of Kenyan branded Kakasa Kombucha drink.
The deceased is identified as Robert Welikhe, a resident of Sikhendu village, Sikhendu parish, Bukiabi Sub County in Namisindwa district.
According to Michael Koyi, an eyewitness, the competition was organised by Augustus Wete, one of the tycoons at Riverside trading centre at Bukiabi Sub County.
He adds that Wete staked Shs10,000 for whoever could finish 12 bottles of Kakasa Kombucha drink which attracted Welikhe since he was a renowned waragi drinker in the area.
Koyi also says that when Welikhe reached 8 bottles, he collapsed and foam starting oozing out of his nose and mouth. Welikhe died on the way as he was being rushed to Lwakhakha mercy clinic for treatment.
Nicolas Soita, the LCIII chairperson of Bukiabi Sub County has confirmed the incident saying they are hunting for the people who organized the drinking competition.
By press time, angry locals had abandoned Welikhe’s body at Wete’s home.
