A horny health worker at Buwasa Health Centre IV in Sironko District has allegedly defiled a 13 year old girl who had gone to the facility to receive treatment.
According to the victim’s grandmother and guardian, Betty Nambozo, a resident of Buwamanyala village, Buwamanyala parish, Busamaga Sub County, her granddaughter was defiled on Saturday, 11th November, 2023 by a yet to be identified health worker.
She says the minor who is a primary six pupil of Nakirungo primary school located at Busamaga Sub County in Sironko district had accompanied her aunty, Namuwenge Minati to Buwasa health centre IV on Saturday after developing malaria complications.
The victim also had flu like symptoms so the aunty advised her to seek medical assistance and probably get drugs.
Nambozo also says that her granddaughter later told her that she was defiled by the health worker in a private room at the health centre by a male health worker whose name she doesn’t know. The minor however says, she can identify him by face if shown.
While speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, 14th November, 2023, the victim says that she was instructed by a health worker to move into a private room for testing after she told him that she had flu.
She adds that after reaching there, the health worker told her to remove all clothes and lie on a bed. She says, when she undressed, he sexually abused her and then warned her never to reveal to anyone lest he kills her.
Meanwhile, the victim’s aunt says that she did not notice what happened from the room on Saturday until on Monday, 13th November when the victim revealed it to her and the grandmother.
She says that they reported the matter to the police post of Bukusege and they did a medication examination that proved that the minor was defiled.
Moses Muduli, the LCIII chairperson of Busamaga Sub County condemned the incident saying the law must take its course such that others can take that as an example.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying they are first investigating to identify the real health worker behind this act.
Denis Ephraim Balwaniregha, the Sironko Resident District Commissioner says that as security, they are planning to parade all health workers of Buwasa Health Centre IV and ask the minor to identify the suspect by face so that he can be arrested.
Getting a comment from Moses Wobudubile the in charge of Buwasa health center IV was futile by press time after making our repeated calls busy.
