FULL LIST: Why Kenyan President Fired 6 Chief Executive Officers

The office of the President of Kenya has announced the suspension of six Chief Executive Officers and 67 Police officers over corruption related offences.

 

The communication is contained in a press release dated 16th November, 2023 and signed off by the State House Spokesperson, Hussein Mohamed.

 

The statement says the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service, Felix Koskei directed the suspension of the CEOs and 67 police officers for alleged involvement in corruption and procurement irregularities in their respective institutions.

 

Among those suspended are; Engineer Fredrick Mwamati, CEO Tanathi Water Works Development Agency for alleged procurement irregularities in the award of a tender for the construction of a Leather Industrial Park Water Supply Project.

 

Stephen Ogenga, the Director General of the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) faces the sack for alleged procurement irregularities in the award of a tender for supplies for NITA.

 

The Acting Director General of National Museums of Kenya, Stanvas Ong’alo has also been suspended for alleged embezzlement of Kshs490 million through irregular payments.

 

Benjamin Kai Chilumo, the CEO Huduma Center Secretariat has been fired for corruption allegations while he served as Chief Finance Officer in the Government of Kilifi County.

 

Meanwhile, Peter Gitaa Koria, the CEO/GM of Bomas of Kenya is suspended over allegations of procurement irregularities in supplies for the institution.

 

Engineer Anthony Wamukota, the General Manager of Design and Construction of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company has been sacked for alleged procurement irregularities related to the construction contract of the 400KV Lolyangalani power project.

 

In addition, Esther Wanjiru Chege, an accountant at KeRRA has been suspended for conflict of interest and unexplained wealth.

The 67 Police officers who have been suspended have been implicated in corruption related malpractices.
