The Arua City Engineer has been arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with CID for allegedly embezzling over Shs28Million.
Charles Omona who was arrested today, 24th November, 2023 is accused of diverting the Uganda Road Fund money meant to rehabilitate roads in Arua City to solve his domestic problems.
According to a statement issued by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit today, It’s alleged that during the month of June 2023, the suspect and others still at large irregularly processed and transferred over UGX56million shillings from the Arua City’s Treasury single account to the imprest account and withdrew it in cash.
The said money is alleged to have been handed over to the Engineer allegedly to pay service providers who did some road works, and maintenance of works Department vehicles, which was not done.
Omona claimed he used part of the money to solve his domestic problems, leaving parts of the roads in bad conditions.
