Bank of Uganda has released a list of 85 verified creditors of the Greenland Bank which is in the final stages of liquidation.

While publishing the list on Monday, 27th November 2023, Bank of Uganda also asks the Verified Creditors to submit their Account Details, Contact details, Copy of National ID, valid telephone numbers, copies of Registration Certificates for Companies to the Liquidator before the end of 30 days from 27th November, 2023.

Greenland Bank was incorporated on August 3, 1990 and operated until April 1, 1999 when the central bank placed it under liquidation. As a result, BOU closed Greenland Bank and put it under liquidation, accusing its proprietor, the late Sulaiman Kiggundu of violating banking regulations.

Now the 85 Verified Creditors will be paid after submitting their details to the Liquidator.

Creditors are individuals/businesses that have lent funds to another company and are therefore owed money. By contrast, debtors are individuals/companies that have borrowed funds from a business and therefore owe money.

Liquidation is the process of permanently closing a bank and its branches, selling off any assets and using the proceeds to settle as many of the bank’s remaining liabilities as possible. Typically, customer accounts are closed and checks are mailed to account holders for the amount of their insured deposits.

The legal representatives of any deceased creditors are advised to submit their documents to the Director, Financial Stability Department, Bank of Uganda, Plot 45, Kampala Road, P. O. Box 7120, Kampala.

Or email through: Bankresolution@bou.or.ug Or to the Bank of Uganda Branches located at; (a) Jinja Branch – Plot 3 Busoga Avenue, Busoga Square. (b) Mbarara Branch – Plot 2 High Street
