MBALE CITY: Authorities Name 4 Suburbs Leading In Gender Based Violence

Mbale City Authorities have named four suburbs in the City that are registering the highest number of Gender Based Violence cases resulting in family breakages, prostitution and increase of street kids.

 

 

This was revealed by Baker Mwanja, the Mbale City Senior Probation Officer while speaking to the Media on Thursday, 30th November, 2023 during a press conference at Mbale City Hall.

 

 

Mwanja says the notorious suburbs are; Namatala, Bugema in Industrial City Division, Nakaloke in Northern City Division, and Bukonde Sub County.

 

 

Mbale city organised the press conference to speak about the International Day Celebration of 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence.

 

The 16 days of activism against gender based violence started on 25th this month and will end in December.

 

 

Mwanja revealed that his office gets over 50 cases of gender based violence from those four areas which he said is very high.

 

 

Sarah Kalenda, the Community Development Officer at Industrial City Division said that in these 16 days of activism, the City is going to sensitize people about dangers of gender based violence on, planting trees, blood donation among others.

 

 

She urged local and religious leaders to join them in condemning gender based violence and advise married couples to always seek police or local council courts to solve their misunderstandings instead of fighting.
