A tragic accident has claimed the lives of two NW&SC Engineers one of whom was set to wed his sweet heart, Prize Patience on Saturday, 9th December, 2023.
The deceased have been confirmed by police as Eng. Kenneth Twesigye, born of Rwikiniro village, Ruhama Sub County in Ntugamo, and Eng. Moses Manirakiza, resident of Burungu Village, Muramba Sub County in Kisoro.
The third victim is the driver of the Taxi, Mujuruzi Herbert, resident of Rukungiri district. 13 passengers in the Taxi sustained injuries and are admitted at Itojo Hospital.
The accident which involved two vehicles; a Subaru Forester registration number UBN 350Q and a Toyota Hiace, Registration No: UBP 314A occurred at Kahunga Trading Center along the Ntugamo-Mbarara road at about 1:40PM ON Sunday night, 3rd December, 2023.
According to police, the occupants of the Subaru Forester (the two NW&SC Engineers) were travelling from Mbarara to Ntungamo when the accident occurred.
The police statement says, the Subaru driver lost control due to heavy rain which caused water to cover the road and as a result he swerved onto the incoming lane leading to a head-on collision with the Taxi.
The three bodies have been conveyed to Itojo Hospital pending postmortem while the vehicles were towed and parked at Ntugamo Police Station.
