Police in Mbale have arrested a man in his 40’s for impersonating as a doctor at Bukasakya Health Center IV. The man was arrested by the deputy RCC of Industrial City Division, Mr Banjar Hamuza on Wednesday, 6th December, 2023.
According to the RCC, he was tipped off by one of the nurses in the health center, after seeing someone in the children’s ward trying to treat one of the ill babies.
This quack doctor identified as Ronald Wachemba was later questioned by the RCC and his security team as to why he was treating babies without permission. However, Wachemba denied treating any baby.
But after a long questioning, he admitted having tried to treat the baby, and said that was the only mistake he made.
Sarah Neginsa, the mother of the sick baby, said that the quack doctor came and told her the kid had to be taken away from the hospital, something she had refused to do.
Some of the locals who had aslo come to seek treatment at this health center told us that the man was not putting on any doctor’s uniform, and that’s why they reported him.
Meanwhile, the senior clinical officer in charge of Bukasakya health center Iv Irene Nabuwlala said that Wachemba first told her that he is a doctor working in Bulambuli district, but later changed his statement.
Deputy RDC warned locals not to trust or work with any person in a health center without a Doctor’s uniform or nurse.
