The Community Development Officer, Lwakhakha Sub County and three leaders of Butwmulani Parish Development Model SACCO have been ordered to report to police before end of this week over allegations of extorting PDB Beneficiaries.

It is alleged that Hellen Nalyaka (CDO), Mama Watoto, Shaban Damulan and Sulian Nagudi, the treasurer of Butwmulani PDM SACCO have asking for money from beneficiaries claiming it was being taken to the district CDO also doubling as district PDM focal person, Andrew Wabweni and RDC’s office before they are permitted to benefit from the program.

On Tuesday, during a security meeting chaired by Imran Muluga, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner (RDC) at Lwakhakha Town Council, hundreds of PDM beneficiaries alleged that their leaders asked them to pay between 60,000/= to 100,000/= each claiming that they were taking the money to Wabweni and RDC’s office.

Some of the beneficiaries say that they were threatened by those leaders that without paying that money, their names will be deleted from the list by the RDC and CDO.

While responding to the allegations, Magidu Wepukhulu, the Namsindwa district OC who represented the DPC asked the suspects to report to Lwakhakha police station before the end of this week and record their statements.

He says that after recording the statements, they are going to investigate and if found culpable, the suspects shall be arrested for illegally extorting PDM beneficiaries.

Muluga says that those leaders will have to refund the monies they have received from the beneficiaries at all costs.

He adds that the PDM program is for free and they are also going to start arresting beneficiaries who are giving money to these leaders yet they are being told everyday that the PDM program is for free.
