A 60 year old man has received 100 strokes of the cane from locals and his clan elders for reportedly raping and defiling his 16 year old daughter.
Jackson Wamukota, a resident of Bugunalire Cell in Mbale Industrial City Division got the canes on Tuesday 5/12/2023.
Wamukota was caught red-handed by his 13 year old son while feasting on his older sister on Sunday 3/12/2023 when other family members were not at home. The boy is said to have and reported to his paternal uncle who responded to the call and indeed found Wamukota in the act.
It is said he promised to give her shs 5000 if she kept silent.
The clan elders and locals headed by Peter Wepukhulu told this reporter that the suspect confessed to have committed incest and that as a clan, they decided to perform cultural rituals to cleanse him.
As part of the ritual, Jackson was directed to buy a he-goat, chicken, malwa and matooke for the performance of the ritual. The incident irked the village locals and clan elders who decided to perform a cleansing ceremony which involved caning Wamukota 100 times.
However, the locals were so angry with the suspect because of such dubious act considering his age in the community he has been living in for over 40 years.
