BUSIA: 5 Break into Police Post Cells to Release Suspects, Arrested

Police has arrested and arraigned before court five men suspected of breaking into a police post cell and releasing two suspects.


According to Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi North Police Spokesperson, the five on 16th November, 2023 took advantage of a heavy downpour that was accompanied by a storm to raid Bulumbi Police Station and cut through the cell door thereby aiding the escape of the two suspects.


He names the two suspects whose escape was aided as; Stephen Bogere and Suliman Wafula. The duo had earlier been arrested for illegally encroaching on Busitema Forest Government Land Reserve.


Mugwe says, the five suspects identified as; Jimmy Egesa alias Commando, Wamboya Simon alias Odeki, Felix Sifuna alias Olwijo, Issa Mukoya alias Goddy and Othieno Misisera alias Jagwa were arrested on the night of 29th November, 2023.


There arrest followed a covert intelligence operation that identified them as the thugs who aided the escape of the two suspects.


Mugwe says the five were immediately transferred to Busia Central Police Station and were produced before court for plea taking on Friday, 8th December, 2023.


They were charged with four counts of; rescuing a person in lawful custody, malicious damage to property, possessing an instrument of House Breaking and unlawful possession of ammunition.


Meanwhile, he says the escapees are still at large and reiterates police’s determination to have them re-arrested and produced in courts of law.
