District Commercial Officers from Eastern Uganda have undergone a three day training on formation of SACCOS.
The training sponsored by Uganda Cooperative Alliance (UCA) took place at Rose Wood Hotel located at Mbale City and ended on Saturday, 9th December, 2023.
UCA trained the district commercial officers on how to sensitize the public to make groups, SACCOs and benefits of being in cooperative societies.
According to the minister, the government is supporting people who are organised in SACCOs because it uses government money and refunds compared to giving to an individual.
He urged the commercial officers to put the knowledge they have acquired into action by working with sub county CDOs to sensitize people about advantages of forming SACCOs.
Justine Khayiza, the former Bududa district woman Member of Parliament who also attended the training said that the failure by farmers not being in SACCOs and cooperatives has led to reduction in prices of their agricultural products.
She urged the government to revive cooperative societies in all regions and cooperative banks such that farmers can get lots of money through agriculture.
Bernard Kidongo, the Namisindwa district commercial officer expressed his happiness with the training saying he is going to use the knowledge acquired to train his people in the district especially farmers so that they can get more money.
