Uganda’s oldest University, Makerere University, Kampala has called for nominations for the position of Chancellor Makerere University.
The call is contained in a press statement issued today, 11th December, 2023 by the University Secretary/Secretary to the University Council, Simon Kizito.
The current Makerere University Chancellor is Prof Ezra Suruma who has served four year terms since 18th January 2016 .
The Chancellor is the titular head of the University, presides over all ceremonial assemblies of the University and confers degrees and other academic titles and distinctions of the University.
The deadline for submission of nominations is 11th January 2024 at 5:00 p.m. East African Time.
To qualify to be a Chancellor Makerere University, one Must be a Citizen of Uganda, hold at least a Bachelors Degree from a recognized University, be a person of high integrity with good public relations, be above 55 years and below 75.
Chancellor of Makerere University must not be a student anywhere in Uganda and should not be a serving Chancellor, Vice Chancellor or staff of any academic institution.
The position is held for a term of four years and can only be renewed once.
PROCEDURE OF NOMINATIONS
Interested persons must submit the following; a nomination letter with a detailed justification for the nomination, written consent letter of no objection by the nominee, curriculum vitae of the nominee, copies of relevant academic credentials and names and addresses of three referees.
