MBALE CITY
Eight suspects have been arrested today, Saturday, 16th December, 2023 on allegations of hacking into the Parish Development Model (PDM) banking system.
The suspects are John Paulo Wazombe, Agrey Titus, Alfred Mwaka, Stephan Wanyakomu, Asuman Matanda, and Moses Mukhwana, all residents of Nauyo Ward, Industrial City Division in Mbale city.
According to Mr John Rex Aachilla, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner, while speaking to the media today at his office during a press conference, he ordered the arrest of these people after getting intelligence.
He says that these suspects have been asking beneficiaries to give them passwords of their PDM accounts such that they help them access money from the Centenary bank system.
The RCC says that they have been asking for between 50,000/= to 200,000/= from each beneficiary before helping him or her to get money without going into the bank.
He reveals further that so far the suspects had obtained from over 200 PDM beneficiaries.
He also says that what immediately prompted the arrest was the information that some PDM beneficiaries who had given out their Bank Account passwords never got the cash and yet money had actually been withdrawn.
The RCC suspects that these people have been conniving with Centenary Bank Officers and Mbale City technocrats saying after investigation they are also going to arrest them to help with investigation.
By press time, the eight were at Mbale Central Police Station recording statements.
