The government of Uganda has waived Visa requirements for Citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo entering into Uganda.

This new policy shift was announced today, 18th December, 2023 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In a statement signed by Mundeyi Simon Peter, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, the Visa waiver is effective 1st January, 2024.

“This decision was made after the Democratic Republic of Congo became a full member of the East African Community (EAC) on 11th July 2022,” says the statement.

Mundeyi explains further that during the 8th Joint Permanent Commission held on the 11th to 15th October, 2023 in Kinshasha both parties agreed in principle to waive Visa requirements for citizens of both countries on a reciprocal basis.

Following the Kinshasha agreement, the Cabinet of Uganda under Minute 374 (CT 2023) resolved to remove the Visa requirement for Ugandan and Congolese nationals to exit and enter the DRC and Uganda respectively.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs is now ready to implement this directive from 1st January, 2024,” says Mundeyi.
