The Senior Procurement Officer (SPO) of Yumbe district has been arrested for allegedly soliciting and receiving a Shs23M bribe from a Contractor.
Kana Taban was arrested on the morning of 20th December, 2023 by a combined team of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and Criminal Investigations Department detectives.
Taban was arrested alongside a one, Anule Siraj whose account was used in the transaction.
According to a brief statement issued by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Taban solicited for Shs23 million from Obua Emmanuel, the Managing Director of Apogee Logistics company.
The bribe was a condition for awarding Obua’s company a contract for the construction of Ibizi water shed culvert and the rehabilitation of 4.3km Abiriamajo Yangani access road for FY2022/2023.
The bribe was paid through a bank account in the names of Miribe Foundation Limited and was withdrawn by the account signatory Anule Siraj, who delivered it to the Senior Procurement Officer.
The Investigations have so far recovered Shs20M from the suspects who are currently detained at Arua CPS for further inquiries.
