MBALE CITY: Notorious Car Number Plates Thief Tricked into Arrest

A notorious car number plates’ thief has finally been arrested by police after being lured to Mbale Referral Hospital that his wife had been admitted there.

 

The suspect identified as Abdullah Manira, 36 years of age and believed to a ring leader of car number plates’ thieves in Mbale City and neighboring areas was arrested on Thursday, 21st December, 2023.

 

According to police records, the thieves have been demanding for between Shs100,000 to Shs500,000 for each number plate they have plucked before returning it to the owner.

 

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson says that Manira’s arrest follows a complaint that was filed by Adam Wachi from Nauyo in Industrial city after his UBE 534P number plate of his Toyota Wish vehicle was plucked off.

 

He adds that most affected areas are Nauyo, Nakaloke, Namunsi, Bugema, and Indian Quarters. This prime suspect has revealed a good number of his gang members.

 

Manira Abdalla was in the past rescued by Mbale Police from angry residents that wanted to lynch him when he was caught stealing within Mble City.

 

Taitika encourages the public to always report and desist from sending money to the criminals. The suspect has been remanded to Malukhu prison.
